I admit; I am not a beauty blogger or an expert in other ways. I am just a gaijin (Foreigner) in this beautiful land having a hard time figuring out what beauty products to buy or just as simple as “what is this for”? I have tried many products and I just want to share my experience hoping that it will be helpful to other gaijin as well.
Just to give you an idea, I am Asian with combination skin type. When the weather changes, my skin has a problem adjusting so I would get acne, tiny bumps and dry spots on certain areas of my face.
Let’s get started!
1) Cure Natural Aqua Gel
As I have said, I have problems with my skin and I am prone to acne and bumps if I don’t exfoliate well. I also have certain dry spots so I am looking for a product that is also gentle on my face and I could not be more satisfied with Cure Natural Aqua Gel.
Cure Natural Aqua Gel is so impressive and popular that it’s advertisement claims 1 bottle sold every 12 seconds.
The Gel is made up of 90% activated hydrogen water. It is odorless, clear, no lather, and has no cooling or warming sensation plus it applies clear which I like because I can see how much dead skin was removed.
How to use:
Step 1: Wash your face with you normal facial wash. Pat dry.
Step 2: Apply 1-2 pumps of the product to the face. Massage in circular motion for 30 seconds to 1 minute. You will see little balls of skin cells forming.
Step 3: Gently rinse off with warm water.
Step 4: Moisturize your skin with your usual product.
I seriously love how it makes my skin tone more even and brighter, complexion softer, pores tighter, and softens acne scars.
2) Hada Labo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion
Do not confuse the word “lotion” with the western definition of lotion. It is not a creamy texture that you put on your face. It is like a moisturizing toner that you use before your actual moisturizer. I know, you might be asking why do I need this when I have a moisturizer? Well, simply because it works. Asian beauty routine is all about layering your products to achieve its desired effect.
The Lotion is clear and odorless. You only need about 2-3 drops of the lotion for the whole face. During summer, I use the Hada Labo Lotion as a stand-alone moisturizer. I feel that the product itself is enough for my skin during this weather.
How to use:
Step 1: Wash your face with you normal facial wash. Pat dry
Step 2: Pour about a nickel-size of the lotion on your palm and rub between your hands to warm the product.
Step 3. Gently pat the lotion onto your face and neck until it is thoroughly absorbed. Wait until the product is fully absorbed before layering another product.
Tip: I like to saturate thin cotton pads with Hada Labo Lotion and apply it to my dry spots and leave it for about 3 -5 minutes. It is like my DIY facial mask. When you have dry spots, simply putting the lotion will not work because the product might evaporate before the skin has the chance to fully absorb the product.
3) Heroine Make Mascara
I have Asian lashes, which means that I have stick straight lashes that are difficult to curl or stay curl for a long period of time. I have tried so many brands of mascara and some of them works but not like Japanese Mascara. I was really impressed because at the end of the day my mascara is still holding my curled lashes extremely well.
The Heroine Make Mascara is pure black, sweat proof, tear proof and waterproof. With this in mind, you do need a little bit of work removing them. I have successfully removed the mascara by soaking a cotton pad with oil based makeup remover and applying it to my eyes for a few seconds before gently removing them.
4) Sunkiller Perfect Water Essence SPF 50
I do not like putting sunscreen on my face. I don’t like the smell, the white mask and sticky feeling it leaves on my face. But I also know that sun exposure can cause collagen and skin to breakdown and cause wrinkles or worse cancer. So I better start slapping sunscreen onto my face before those wrinkles starts coming out. Prevention is always better than the cure.
Sunkiller Perfect Water Essence comes out as light - weight white gel, with very light citrus smell and applies like water on my skin. It sinks in very quickly to my face leaving no trace of white product and sticky feeling. It also has 3 types of hyaluronic acid for skin nourishment.
5) Matomage Styling Stick
For those unruly hair that always ticks out. With a single dap the baby hair stays flat.
The Matomage Styling stick is fragrance free, color free styling stick that comes in a small and cute packaging, very convenient if you are travelling. You can simply sweep across your hair to achieve your desired style without dirtying your hands.
Bonus: They also come in Hello Kitty packaging. Kawaii!!
To be honest, I was struggling to find products when I arrived. I am glad that I finally figured out what products works for me and once you know what to look for, it will become easier.
