Free things to do in Singapore

Singapore is known to be a busy and expensive country. Even if you will only be staying for a couple of days, it could put a dent on your backpacking budget. So we've compiled a list of things so you can enjoy the beautiful country without the breaking the bank.

1. Meet the Merlion

The famous tourist spot and symbol of Singapore can be seen free of charge. The head represents the country's original name, Singapura, which translates to Lion City. Located at the Merlion Park overlooking the Marina Bay, the half-fish and half-lion statue is hard to miss, especially with flocks of tourist surrounding the area and doing picture trick shots.

2. Go to a Wonder Full Show

Sounds, lights, laser and Singapore city lights as the background will give the Wonder Full Show - Light and Water Show that shouldn't be missed. Biggest in the south east Asia region, the amazing laser production is free of charge. Coordinate your visit because it is only available on certain times a day.

3. Super Tree Grove

After seeing the wonder full show at the Promenade, walk yourself towards the Gardens by the bay. Although the garden opens at 5 AM, we feel that some part of the Garden can be truly appreciated at night, like the super tree grove. The towering super trees measuring up to 50 meters tall come alive during the amazing light and sound show.

4. Be amazed by the Marina Bay Sands Mega structure

Marina Bay Sands is a massive and impressive structure which is why it's no surprise that it was featured in the series Megastructure by National Geographic. Although going up the hotel and admiring the full 360 view of Singapore can cost you, we feel that walking around Marina bay is enough for us to admire this one of a kind creation. With over 155,000 square meters consisting of mall, hotel, restaurants and event place, you can still find other things to do for free.

5. Play around in Sentosa

You can go to Sentosa Island using the light rail system which cost S$4 or you can walk your way from Vivo City. It is a 15 minute leisurely walk that consists of shaded pathway and walkalator in between walks, if you think you are missing out because you want to use the train, well don't worry you can still ride the light rail system and see amazing views on your way back. Using the train to get back to Vivo City is free of charge. Enjoy strolling Siloso and Palawan Beach and see a bigger Merlion inside!
