Disclaimer: Our itinerary does not include fares going to Palawan itself.
It is our first time to ride 2GO ferry, we really didn't know what to expect. We bought a lot of snacks and medicine for sea sickness just to be prepared for the 16 hour boat ride.
On the itinerary, they advise people that you should be at the terminal 4 hours before the departure time. We finally understood why you have to be there very early when we got there. Because of the bulk of passengers and crates that they have to load, unlike airplanes, 2GO ferry carries on a minimum 500 people a day. We went through security after paying the terminal fee, the process is quick and hassle free, we were able to board ship 3 hours before the boarding time. We arrived at Coron at 4:30 AM, overslept a little bit on the boat, we left the pier around 5 AM. Hired a tricycle to take us to Coron Backpackers Guesthouse. For more info on Coron Backpackers Guesthouse CLICK HERE It was still very early so we waited outside the guesthouse for a couple of hours before checking in early. After a few hours of rest, we head out to the town proper to inquire about tours and to locate the town market to buy food.
We have decided to hike Mt. Tapyas before sunset and to rent a tricycle going to Maquinit hot spring as our first activities in Coron.

Upon comparing tours and rates from other travel agency, we made a decision to book our tours with Dream Tours located at the town proper. They also gave us a discount of 200php each tour because we also booked our boat fare going to El Nido with their agency. Island tours includes lunch and free pick up from your accommodation.
We really wanted to do the Island reef and Wreck tour but from what we have heard from other backpackers, it is better experienced when diving. We don't have our divers license yet, so we opted for the highlights tour instead.
Coron Highlights tour includes the following:
1. CYC Beach
2. Kayangan Lake
3. Twin Lagoon
4. Smith Beach
5. Coral Garden
6. Skeleton Wreck
This was also our last day in Coron Backpackers, we really enjoyed our stay here. The guesthouse offers a lot so our stay was really worth it. We highly recommend Coron Backpackers Guesthouse.

It is now time to say goodbye to beautiful and serene place of Coron. After a quick breakfast, we left Coron backpackers guesthouse at 6 AM to go to the pier. Our boat the Bunso 3, can seat 70 people. Compared to the 2GO ferry, Bunso is really small. We were a little bit skeptical and scared at first because of what we have read on other blogs, but our experience was very different. It was a quiet 6 hour ride, food was good too. We had chopsuey with rice, bottled water and bananas. We were asleep for most of the ride, so we did not really notice the time.
We arrived in El Nido around 2:30 PM, we hopped on a tricycle again to Tay Miloy's Inn which we only booked the day before. After shower and few minutes of rest, we left our room to see the beach near our accommodation and to also inquire about tours available for us. As we were walking on the beach, a lady, lets call her "manang", approached us and offered tours with Jhannas travel agency. We were not really sure about the rates at that time so we told her no that we would visit Jhannas travel agency but we would still ask around for other rates.
We asked different travel agency and figured that manang's offer is cheaper than other tour agencies, some does not even include the tax yet on their pricing. We went to Jhanna's travel agency which is located at the far end of the beach and booked Tour A and Tour C for the following days.
Expenses for the Day:
Tricyle from Coron Backpacker to Coron Pier Terminal: P40 each x 2 P80
Terminal Fee: P20 each x 2 =P40
Tricycle to Tay Miloy: P50
Carinderia Food (good for 2 pax): P115
1L bottled coke: P60
BBQ: P10 each x5= P50
Manang picked us up early morning to go to Jhannas agency for our El Nido Tour A. We waited for few minutes for others members of our tour, a total of 12 persons were included in this tour.
Same with Coron tours, buffet lunch and free pick up is also available.
El Nido Tour A includes the following:
1. Small Lagoon
2. Big Lagoon
3. Hidden beach
4. Shinzo beach
5. 7 Commando beach
When manang picked us up in the morning, we asked her if she knows an inn that has a wifi available, so when we got back from the trip she informed us that she found a place with wifi but it cost P100 more per night. We asked if we could see the place first before deciding because we fear that we might be paying more for an accommodation that looks the same. To our surprise, manang took us to Pads accommodation, across the town church and 1 street closer to the beach. The room is twice the size of our current room plus we have our own rest room. We immediately said yes. We head back, paid our previous accommodation, packed our bags and then returned to pads guesthouse to settle in our new room.
Expenses for the day:
El Nido Tour A: P1000 each x2=P2000
Coke in Can: P60
Instant coffee: P5
BBQ Liempo: P70
Rice: P10 each x2=P20
1L apple tea: P40
Laundry soap: P10
Tay Miloy's Inn: P500
Pads Guesthouse: P600
We started our day around 6:30 AM to buy pastries at the bakery near us. We heard about El Nido power interruption but this time we experience it personally. Although it only lasted for about 1 hour unlike other people's experience that it lasted for almost the half day. We went to Jhannas travel agency to get ready for our tour. This time we picked El Nido Tour C.
El Nido Tour C consists of the following:
1. Hidden beach
2. Montiloc Shrine
3. Talisay Beach
4. Hidden Lagoon
5. Helicopter Island
Expenses for the day:
El Nido Tour C: P1200 each x 2 =P2400
Instant coffee =P10
Refill water = P10
We saw advertisement around the town for motorbike rentals and thought that maybe instead of renting tricycle for the inland tour (formerly known as Tour E) which cost about P1200, we would just ask for a map at the tourist center and drive ourselves to the destinations. During our research, we've learned that the Nagkalit-kalit falls which is included in the inland tour would add up additional cost because of the environmental fee and guide fee, they also said that because of the weather, it has dried up the river that supplies the water for the waterfalls because of this we have decided to not go to the said falls.
The tourist center was very helpful. They informed us that El Nido has one main road that can be easily followed to reach Nacpan/Calitang beach (also known as twin beach) and Las Canabas beach. We went back to our guesthouse to check out, left our belongings at the front desk then made our way to Nacpan beach. On our way, we had a stop over to the town market for brunch.
It took us about 40 minutes before reaching our first stop which is Nacpan beach. We really enjoyed our time in Nacpan, when we imagined what El Nido beach would look like, this is what we had in mind. A non congested long white sand beach that stretched for miles, it really is beautiful. After few hours of beach bumming and climbing a hill to see the famous twin beach, we are now on our way to Los Cabanas to see the sunset. When the sunset was done, we head back to Pads Inn to gather our things and get to our bus ride to Puerto Princesa. For more info about renting a motorbike CLICK HERE
Expenses for the day:
Motorbike rental for whole day: P500
Lunch at carinderia: P90 (good for 2)
1L bottled water: P50
Mango shake: P100
BBQ dinner: P100 (good for 2)
Pads accommodation: P600
Tricycle to bus terminal: P50
Bus ticket going to Puerto Prinsesa: P450 each x 2=P900

It was a spontaneous decision to follow our friends on their trip to Ilocos region. What makes our trip a little bit more interesting was that it is a 4 day long trip, we had a limited budget and little knowledge of the place we are going to. With only few a bucks to spend, here is a list of affordable accommodations we found during our journey.
1. Juanita Uddon Homestay
Location: Saud Beach, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
Contact number: 0910 975 0101
Price: P250 per person
WIFI: Not available
This is best deal of all. Our lodging comprised of private room with ceiling fan, tiny living room, kitchenette, and private bathroom. Juanita Uddon allows guest to cook at their main kitchen, a big plus if you are on a tight budget.
2. Pichay Lodging House
Location: Gov. Primo Lazaro, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
Contact Number: +6377 770-3972 / +6377 772-1267
Price: P350 per person
Our room had 2 beds, a fan and a private bathroom. The room and bathroom is not maintained well. The walls have graffiti all over and the place is not well lit enough.
3. Mojica Residencia Hotel
Location: # 73 Calle Crisologo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Contact Number: 0925 603 2696
Price: P400 per person
Mojica Hotel is less than 5 minutes walk from Calle Crisologo. Although the address is in Calle Crisologo, it is not physically in the famous street. It is on the other side and you have to cross streets. We don’t know if we lost or just missed the hotel, good thing that the tourism center in Calle Crisologo knows where is the location exactly.
Our small room has double bed, air condition, TV and a private bathroom. Bath towels are also provided. Wifi is available in their lobby area but you can still get a weak signal in your room.
4. Green R Hotel
Location: Alcantara Street Extension, Vigan City
Contact Number: 0943 001 4290
Price: P375 per person
Our room has double bed, air condition, and private bathroom. WIFI is only available on the second floor lobby area and the signal can be a little bit tricky. The hotel is located near the market and Partas bus terminal.
